Georgia is in Miz Land, the realm of the utterly miz. She is BORED TO DEATH. She misses her little pallies, especially Miss Huffmeister herself (Jaz). What she wouldn't give to see Jaz do her annoying flicky fringe thing!! It is so true what they say, absence makes the heart something something. And how. The only saving whatsit is that the library has about a trillion back issues of CosmoGIRL. Georgia is sitting cross-legged on the floor of the lounge closest to her bedroom, makeup and magazines spread around her, hair in curlers, letting her base coat of foundation dry and reading an article called "Would YOU be Leo's perfect date?".

At home, she would be doing this in her room, safely out of the path of elderly maniacs (and toddler maniacs, and cat maniacs), but there is so little to do here that she simply CANNOT be in her room a moment longer. Besides, there is no one here whose opinion she cares about. The only cute boy is Magnus, and not only has he got a girlfriend but he's about fifty (she may be misremembering his age). It only goes to show the utter futility of life, and so on. Anyway. Ooh, Leo likes Mexican food?

"Totally not," Tally reassures her. "That would be so bogus. It just means you're, um, discerning. Hummingbirds totally don't commit to a flower before trying it, after all." Tally's pretty sure that isn't actually how hummingbirds work, but she doesn't want Georgia to feel like a common tart.

Tally is such a good mate!! Jaz would have just said "That's right, Slag Nicolson" and then Georgia would have been forced to shove her into a ditch, even though there is technically no violence allowed between ace gang members. This must be the famed Hamburger-a-gogo hospitality that nearly turned Georgia lezzie while she was there. "You are so right. I am utterly dying of boredom here—have you found anything to do?"

Tally turns a little pink. "Um, I've been learning how to do swordfighting with Gideon. Have you met her?"

"No, but that sounds"—well, like something Jaz would be interested in and Georgia would roll her eyes at, who would want to wave around a big sword, but things are different here as there is quite literally nothing normal to do—"groovy. Is she our age as well?"

"Yeah, she is. I spend a lot of time with her, actually. Um... you know how you said we always have to sharesies about snogging?"

Oooohh, finally, something interesting has happened!! Georgia was starting to despair about the utter senseless tragicosity of life. "Yes!"

"I kissed Gideon," Tally confesses. She hopes that since Georgia's a Rusty, she'll understand Gideon's ugly appeal.

If Georgia had heard this when she first arrived, she may have been more confused—not in a bad way, she is a forward-thinking and cool girl and it is almost the twenty-first century, for God's sake—but definitely confused. But luckily she has already had quite a bit of practice talking to homosexuals here, and Tally is her best mate, so she is determined to be sensitive. "Ohmygod, wow!! Have you, er, snogged a girl before?" And after a moment's thought: "Number three or four?" Surely not five???

"Um, yeah," Tally says. Tally, like most uglies, had kissed a few of her peers in Uglyville, which according to her teachers was part of "healthy sexual exploration." Ick. "It never really counted, though. I was an ugly, you know? With Gideon it's been like... a three with a tiny bit of five? But definitely no four."

Wow, five but no four? Gideon gets right to it! "Well, how do you think it's going, do you think you'll be, er, girlfriends and so on?"

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about," Tally says in a rush. "I really don't know. I think she's maybe in love with this girl from back home? So I told her it could be, like, casual, but it's been so... confusion-making!"

Georgia puts on a face of understanding and wisenosity. "I see, I see. Tally, have you ever heard of the General Horn?"

This gets Tally to smile a little. "Georgia-la, you know I haven't heard of most of your, um, Rusty wisdom."

"Well, this comes from my mate Dave the Laugh, he's an expert on romanceosity and sort of a boy interpreter for me. You see, when you have the horn for one person—that is, you really fancy them—it's the Specific Horn. But if you're interested in a lot of different people, and you haven't really decided between them, it's the General Horn. The General Horn is really common in teenagers because we are so spirited and full of life. And if you fancy absolutely everybody, that's the Cosmic Horn, which I think is what Dave has. So you see, you can really like someone and still feel sort of accidentally attracted to other people because of the General Horn through no fault of your own." After all, it's happened to Georgia, and she is not a bad person!! "Maybe that's what Gideon has."

Tally nods seriously, considering. "I do make total sense as someone to be accidentally attracted to."

"No no no, the other twit from home is the one she's accidentally attracted to, you're the one she should eschew her red bottom to focus on. Tally, you have got to have self-esteem. Both CosmoGIRL AND Teen Vogue say it."

Tally's lips open in a shocked O. "I have self esteem! I'm a pretty!" she protests, but it sounds totally limp coming out of her mouth. "The problem is Gideon cares way less about looks than people are supposed to. It's, like, bubbly of her or whatever but it gives me way less of an advantage."

"That is vair vair annoying," Georgia sympathizes. Robbie could be like that too sometimes, all intense about having a true connection between their souls. What's the point of getting all made up and spending hours optimizing the bounceability of one's hair if a boy wants to snog your soul?? "What, er, what are the things you like about her?"

[tallyyoungblood]

"She's funny and she's not afraid to try things, even utterly scary things. Total crim. Plus she's always, like... trying to protect me, I guess?" Tally twists her hair around her finger. "Did you ever see those Rusty movies--or, um, regular movies to you, I guess--about knights and stuff? She's like that. But less boringly devoted to a stupid Rusty god or whatever. Not that I need protecting, really, but it's nice that she wants to?"

Like a knight, but devoted to Tally instead of a god or a king. Framed like that, lesbianism makes a lot more sense! Georgia holds up the magazine. "Do you want to learn what your relationship style is? Maybe it will help."

"Oh my gosh, utterly. I could totally use the advice."

"Fabbity fab!!" Georgia flips to a page titled "What color is your love life?"

"Rightio, question one. At a dance, you are usually the person: A, hanging with your girls, B, flirting with different peeps, or C, dancing thisclose to another guy?"

"Definitely hanging out with my clique. They're not all girls, though."

[georgianosity]

"Alright, and what would be your first question to a love psychic? A, will I ever get a guy? B, is he getting serious about me? Or C, will he be mine forever?" Lord, do not let Rosie get ahold of this magazine. She would develop some mad love psychic character and irritate the pants off Georgia telling her fortune every time she walked near a bloke for the next five thousand years.

"Uh... B, I guess." Tally's not sure about the integrity of a magazine that thinks psychics are real and assumes everyone reading it must like men. Totally misogynistic!
